Julie received a degree in fine arts and art history from the University of Michigan. After taking design courses at the San Francisco School of Fashion Design, Julie became interested in antique clothing and started collecting vintage fabric, buttons, trims, and old jewelry. She designed clothing using many of these repurposed materials. Julie moved to Los Angeles and worked as a design assistant for a denim and leather manufacturer. She then designed custom leather clothing and sold the collection to local stores and many celebrities.
Julie Starr Dresner then worked as a motion picture costumer on such films as “Back to the Future”, “Flashdance”, “Pennies from Heaven” , “Heart Like a Wheel”, “Red Dawn”, “Against All Odds”, “About Last Night” and 5 seasons on the TV show “Night Court” and on numerous TV movies and commercials.
After many years in the film/TV business, Julie began developing a jewelry line and learned various jewelry techniques – silver and gold smithing, casting, bezel setting, stringing and wire wrapping.
Julie’s collection is sold at many stores and boutiques locally and around the country. Her jewelry has been seen in many feature films, TV shows and in print.
